PDP ENCORE 5 PIECE DRUM SET UPGRADE
I figured at this stage just get a cheap set for more at home practice and upgrade the heads and cymbals after a year or so. They're the starter sets but include all hardware and in a couple of cases some slightly upgraded cymbals. They were also the pdp concept maple so that might have been a factor too, assuming she could hear the difference tho.Īs for the the prices, I've found good condition (used a few times to maybe up to a month or two) sets of pdp and Pearl's for 150ish. She said she really likes the color (it was a red wine type color) and since they were the first set she ever played on she has a soft spot for them. Thanks for all the replies and information.Īs to why pdp I talked to her about it today. Sorry for the long winded response, if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would ultimately recommend looking at each company's beginner set and watching reviews on YouTube and see what your daughter likes (if you want her input on a Christmas present). From personal experience, I can attest that PDP hardware is quite durable as I use it myself on my Pearl drumset and I've had the hardware for years and have taken it gigging. It can be purchased for $720 according to PDP's website. It appears to be a newer model from their website and looks higher quality. However, I would recommend the PDP Mainstage over any of those 3 drumsets. Much under $500 for a drumset that includes everything will start to sacrifice far too much quality to recommend. If she is hard set on PDP (ask her why) the encore is probably going to be the best choice of those 3 you listed. But really every major drum company's starter drum set sounds pretty good and will usually come with almost everything you need. It's one of the most recommended kits ever. A good beginner drum set (as mentioned in another comment) is the Yamaha Stage Custom. It's super awesome that she wants a drum set so badly! But since she is so new her opinion on drum sets may be biased based on a YouTube review, the name, or just how pretty it looks (I was this same way). It seems like your daughter is quite new to drumming and has never had a drum kit before as she is 8. My friend has a PDP Concept Maple and it sounds great. Now I'm not saying they make bad drum sets, because they don't. PDP and its parent company DW are generally seen as overpriced for what they are. Yamaha wins big time.īut seriously, why PDP? Maybe telling her it’s a Lite version of a more expensive brand (DW) will talk her down a little? Also not a big fan of plastic hoops on imperialstars although they may look nice. Those 3 pdp kits are pretty generic but are suitable for beginners. I’d pick that instead of any PDP kit any day. Add to that a set of cymbals and hardware and you’re looking at a max price of 800. I’d say you can find a great condition 2014 Stage Custom (latest one) for around 350/400 used.
Really versatile, a few different finishes, hardware packs are usually included with them and the price for a used one is quite fair. It’s a really solid kit that gets used by gigging drummers, beginners and in the studio. I’ve made a whole discussion on the drummerworld forums if you’d like to check it out.įor people with a low budget I always recommend the Yamaha Stage Custom. TLDR - is there a difference between pdp encore z5 and centerstage and if so what are theyĪny particular reason why she likes PDP so much? Because personally I really can’t stand them. I rather liked the tama sets and have found used imperialstar sets for a decent price but she really likes pdp for whatever reason. I suppose if I have to I could try and talk her out of pdp. Are they all about the same or any of them different/better than the others.Īny help at all would be very appreciated since I want to get her something decent but I dont have a ton of money to throw at them.
Is there any real difference between them, or are they all just the same starter shells with a different name? The center stage say birch and hardwood and the other 2 are listed as poplar for the shells. I have seen 3 sets that are cheap, both used and new but cant find anything specific or too on depth on them, the encore, center stage and z5. She really wants pdp drums so I've been looking at used gear and any starter sets I can find. She really likes the sound of pdp drum, specifically the pdp concepts, but those are out of my budget. I have taken her to the local music shops to see what she likes or doesnt. I figure Christmas would be as good as time as any to get her one. My 8 year old daughter has been wanting a drum set for about a year now.
